Seeking Chicken Wing Cooking Teams to Add Sizzle to the Local Economy!

The Hardy County Heritage Weekend and Moorefield FCCLA in collaboration with Pilgrim’s is seeking cooking teams to participate in a chicken wings cooking competition that will feature local foods and recipes. The event is planned for September 27, 1:00 p.m. at Moorefield High School. Limited slots are available cooking teams to compete for the “Hardy County Chicken Wing Cook-Off 2015” Chicken Wing Champion. “Hardy County Chicken Wing Cook-Off 2015” is a unique opportunity to put the spotlight on our local chicken production and recipe ingredients grown right here in Hardy County, West Virginia,” said Mary Catherine Slack. “Our food is a unique asset that we need to celebrate, share and market. In fact, food is a key to our economic future.”

Contestants may choose to cook their wings TRADITIONAL HOT, TRADITIONAL BBQ, and HEALTH KICK. The main ingredient of the chicken wing will be provided as a part of the competition fee. Cooking teams will cook their wings and create sauce and/or spice mixture to best represent their talents. The contestants will gain bonus points for using local ingredients in their own original sauce and or spice recipe. Teams may consist of one to three people. Wings will be evaluated and the top prize awarded to the best amateur team and the best professional team by judges, additionally the public will also have the opportunity to vote for the recipient of the People’s Choice Award. Professional teams will be able to have the bragging rights of the “Best Wing In the Area” and will be awarded a plaque to hang in their business.
