Bake Your Very Best Heritage Pie or Cake

Is it a delicious cherry or apple pie? Perhaps a tangy lemon or lime pie, or maybe peanut butter, chocolate, or coconut? Or is your specialty a beautiful layer cake, pound cake, or another irresistible homemade creation? Now is your chance to have your baking judged the “Very Best of the Best” at the Heritage Weekend Cake & Pie Baking Contest!
Amateur bakers of all ages are invited to enter in two categories: Cake and Pie. There will be one overall winner in each category. Winners will receive gift baskets and/or gift cards from local businesses.
Pre-registration is not required. Entries should be prepared at home and brought to the Pie & Cake Booth at the Hardy County Public Library on Saturday, September 27, between 2:00 and 3:00 p.m. Judging will begin promptly at 3:00 p.m., and prizes will be awarded following the conclusion of judging.
Rules for Both Cake and Pie Categories
1. Each entry must include a typed recipe on an 8½ x 11-inch sheet of paper.
2. The contestant's name, address, contact phone number, and email address (if available) must be placed in the upper right-hand corner of the recipe.
3. Recipe directions must be clear and complete. Measurements should be listed using level cups, tablespoons, teaspoons, or fractions thereof.
4. Recipes must include the pan size used, baking temperature, baking time, number of servings, and any other pertinent preparation information.
5. Any frozen or pre-made components used in an entry must be clearly disclosed.
6. Contestants may submit more than one entry, including entries in both the Cake and Pie categories.
7. All entries must be completed and delivered to the contest between 2:00 and 3:00 p.m. Late entries will be disqualified.
8. Judging will begin promptly at 3:00 p.m., with winners announced at the conclusion of judging.
9. Pie pans and cake plates may be picked up after the winners are announced.
10. Entries will be judged on the following criteria:
• Taste — 25%
• Appearance — 25%
• Creativity — 25%
• Texture — 25%
All cakes and pies, photographs, and recipes submitted to the contest become the property of the Hardy County Tour and Craft Association, which reserves the right to edit, adapt, copyright, publish, and use them for publicity, promotion, or advertising without compensation.
